shaping up: 5 months post baby

Sorry about not doing our weekly post. Sam and I first got sick on Friday and I didn't feel like doing much other than survive work.

But here I am for this month's post baby body report!

walking along the small trail

So this is where I hate the scale and how it's hard to compare by numbers. I lost about one pound and even that one pound comes and goes. Here's the thing though, my clothes tell a different story! I can now fit into more prepregnancy pants. I do need the help with a hair tie in the button hole sometimes, but hey that's fine by me. (Oh, I do have mention that a lot of my clothes do run on the bigger side. Years of losing weight and gaining, I tend to buy clothes that are a little bigger and not so body hugging.) Either way, it feels great wearing normal pants. I'm still pretty squishy in places, but we're working on that.

I've been going to the gym about twice a week. I want to go more, but we've just had so much going on. Zumba is such a great work out. An hour of dancing, can't beat that. We've also been walking a lot more. The weather is just amazing right now! It feels good to be more active.

I'm still loving smoothies for breakfast. Sometimes I see how much spinach I can fit in my cup, heh. I just love getting a good chunk of veggies taken care of first thing in the morning. And when you start the day off healthy, you tend to make better choices. Or if I feel like treating myself, I don't feel so bad about it. (Like that chocolate croissant I had last week.)

So yeah, numbers not good...but clothes are good. It's all about how you feel!

shaping up: 4 months post baby

mmm, green.

Yay! I'm 128! That's about 2 pounds less since last month.

Last week Rob's parents were in town and I ate as best as I could. But there was birthday cake, carrot cake and pizza. Also, I've had this cold for almost 3 weeks now, making it hard to me to really push myself in my gym classes. I still managed to lose something and that's great.

I feel like I have a good thing going on right now. I've been making green smoothies each morning, great way to get a veggie serving in. I've been good about eating and drinking beer. And I am totally enjoying the gym! I love Zumba and the Saturday class just kicks my butt. Water workouts are fun too. I am always the youngest, but that's ok! I have yet to try their yoga class since we've just been so busy over the weekends. The weather is starting to cool down and that means running and walking the dogs more.

It makes me happy that I've finally gotten into this grove. I've also been letting myself just enjoy going to the gym and being away from Sam. I can't wait to see how next month will be.

Shaping Up: 3 months post baby

bathroom shot!

I wasn't going almost wasn't going to write a shaping up post this month, but I want to be honest here even if I still have made no progress.

Yes, I again didn't lose anything. In fact, I actually gained some weight. Right now I'm at 131 lbs.

I'm not upset, which is good! I'm just stumped. Ok, I'm not exercising as much as I should and I'm eating healthier. But the week from my birthday to 4th of July was filled with bad eating and beers and it's not like before where a week of eating good will get me back to normal. I just can't use the tactics that I've used before.

I remind myself constantly that it's only been 3 months! That's such a short amount of time! And I also work, so my time is limited. I do what I can. Besides when I get home from work, it's more important for me to play with Sam than exercise.

Next month I'm going to start running again. Rob will be finished with his ultramarathon training and will be taking a breaking before he starts training for NYC marathon. That gives me a chance to be able to run on weekend mornings, which I'm excited about. Running is being outside, which is what I crave. With Sam right now, I'm pretty much stuck sitting most of the day.

So yeah. I didn't lose anything. Which is ok, it's all about how I feel and know that I will lose the baby weight.

Shaping Up: 2 months Post Baby

office bathroom pics! yay!

I did not lose a pound! Losing weight after having a baby is so not the same as you normally would try to lose weight. I have to remind myself that my body is not the same and it's still weak and recovering from growing a baby and delivery. It's just a mental struggle because I've lost weight before. I've lost a total of 90lbs since graduating highschool so losing 1 pound should not be hard! Also, since I am breastfeeding I can't cut calories. In fact I still need more calories than a normal gal! It makes my brain hurt! heh.

Ok I could've done things a bit differently to help me lose weight. I need to start choosing quality calories over sweets and other high calorie foods. It's also not an excuse to have big extra helpings. Seriously, did I almost have an extra half a burger and beef one no less? Who am I?? Although, next Friday starts the summer week of naughtiness! My birthday, 4th of July and Rob's parents for a week....food fest! I will TRY to be good!

I'm also struggling with taking care of Sam and finding time to fit in some exercising. Sam wants to breastfeed as soon as we get home, which I don't blame him, he misses his mama. I'm going to see if I can exercise after dinner and start going to bed a bit later since Sam is sleeping more at night.

But again, it's only been almost three months! I'm not upset I haven't lost anything and I'm not hard on myself. Most days I feel great about my body! I look at myself in the mirror and I see the old Suzy, with  a bit extra on the hips and thighs.

Anyways! Next month will be better.

Shaping Up Month 1

I passed my postpartum appointment with flying colors! Ha ha. Since I'm now back to "normal", I can finally start getting my body back into shape. Now, I'm not expecting myself to be exactly how I was before I was pregnant. My body went through way too much for that. Instead I'm just going to work on getting into shape and losing the weight I am meant to lose.

Also, starting soon I'm going to start running again. My goal is to run a half marathon in 2014. That right there will help me get into shape and stay motivated. Thankfully I have Rob and friends who are runners and that always inspires me to run.

And since I have a blog, I have to document it! Besides, it'll help me keep track of how I'm doing. I plan to check in once a month. Even though weight is not really what I want to focus on, it's the easiest to measure.

Pre-Pregnancy Weight - 118 lbs
6 weeks

Pregnancy Weight - 153 lbs ( that's +35lbs)
37 weeks

------------------------------------------------------
May 20th:
Weight - 130 lbs
Exercise Plan - Post natal yoga dvd, walking
Feeling - I'm feeling so ready to get started! Unfortunately I threw out my back pretty good and I have to take it very easy. Going to the chiropractor later today. I did manage a very gentle post natal yoga session and I walked the dogs. Bodywise, when I wear maternity clothes, I feel great, those belly bands hold and smooth everything out. When I wear normal clothes, they just fit weird and my mushy tummy sticks out.
